So what IS reading treasury?

A place where books go to kids in need, where reading is treasured, and where talking goldfish are absolutely, positively, 100 percent real.

What kinds of books do you use?

We try to use books that are racially and culturally diverse. Our team hopes that all the books are empowering and interesting to all readers!

When did reading treasury start?

Midsummer, 2020, right in the middle of the Coronavirus Pandemic.

How did you start?

It began with us just giving books and hand-made journals to close friends from school. We’d add in bookmarks, letters to the readers, and items related to the theme.

Soon we decided to make some for a nursing home, using some of my mom’s books.

They were a huge hit.

While delivering one to a friend, their enthusiasm inspired us. A month later, we arranged a delivery of 21 bags to a homeless shelter.

What are included in the treasuries?

• Two books.
• One journal.
• One hand-made bookmark.
• A pen, pencil, sticker, and other reading and writing necessities.
• 1 item related to the theme.
• A stuffed animal for the younger kids.
• A paper crane.

Where do you deliver treasuries to?

Homeless shelters in Connecticut.
